SAO PAULO.-.- Sao Paulo Fashion Week opened with a show featuring styles by designer Reinaldo Lourenço inspired by the Miami Beach lifestyle.
The 47th edition of the fashion event began Monday and will go on until April 27,a week during which 36 brands will present their creations in the ARCA building, the main venue, and in some other facilities of Brazil’s largest city.
Lourenço shot the starting pistol to get this grand fashion occasion up and running with his 2020 spring-summer collection called «Hotel Lourenço» at the iconic Farol Santander building in downtown Sao Paulo.
His creations briefly turned downtown Sao Paulo into Miami Beach with dozens of models parading multipurpose outfits and «hybrid looks.»
Skirt-pants, pants-skirts, dress-skirts and crepe tops with large openings on the back finished with geometric embroidery were among the more recurrent creations in their black, pink blush and white versions.
Nighttime looks were also on hand with dresses featuring strategic openings and many metallic rings attaching separate pieces of fabric together to form a single piece.
The Ocean Drive and Miami City decorations broke the tone of solid neutral colors by evoking the streets of the American city with drawings of buildings in shades of blue, pink and pale yellow.
In line with this retro style, Art Deco motifs placed geometrically on shirts, skirts and dresses were another important element, as were the top hats that rounded out most of the outfits.
The gabardine was also a recurrent item of apparel in the Reinaldo Lourenço collection and repeated almost all the versions of the prints presented.
Loose-fitting dresses of lamé gave a glittering touch to the night by evoking sunrise, sunset and nightfall with their different colors.
Specifically, the collection is designed to make these multipurpose items of clothing seen as the perfect way to dress from the beginning of the day to the end.
This Monday’s collection was the beginning of a week of events in the ARCA space, though another two fashion shows will take place in other iconic buildings of Sao Paulo.
The slogan for this edition is «What is your utopia?» and with it Fashion Week participants propose to look to a future «more and more creative, collaborative and affectionate,» the organization said.
One way the public will be involved is the projection on ARCA screens ideas about the future that internauts share under the hashtag #MinhaUtopiaHoje («My utopia today» in Portuguese).
This 47th edition of Sao Paulo Fashion Week will also premiere the brands Another Place, Flavia Aranha, Haight, Neriage and Ocksa.
The return to the runway of the irreverent urban style of the Cavalera firm of Alberto Hiar will serve to put the finishing touch on this edition with Saturday’s closing fashion parade.
Lenny Niemeyer, another of the week’s celebrities, will parade her creations on Tuesday at the Pinacoteca cultural center, also in downtown Sao Paulo.
Inspired by a 1700 map of South America that belonged to her family, she handles an imaginary cartography of rivers, vegetation, minerals and constellations in her designs.
Another of the most awaited collections this year is that of Ponto Firme by Gustavo Silvestre on Saturday, who last year surprised everyone by combining social work with fashion in a collection designed for ex-convicts.
Another element essential for this year’s show is the Estufa Project, which will open a space for creating and reflecting on art through some of the fashion parades, collective classes, talks, laboratories and a fair for start-ups.
Two brands of sustainable beauty will press environmental responsibility, the American Biossance and the Brazilian Simple Organic, which will provide their vegan cosmetics to the models showing off multiple brands of clothing during the event.
